Other providers cap the download capacity, whereas Telinet does not.

MPLS

!
Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) is fast becoming the standard technology for implementing large-scale Internet Protocol (IP) networks.

Originally created to improve the performance of large backbone networks, features such as Traffic Engineering and Quality of Service have all contributed to its increasingly widespread adoption

How MPLS works:

Connected using standard IP routing equipment that requires little or no modification, MPLS eliminates the routing decision for all information across the core network from the Provider Edge (PE) router on one side to the PE router on the other. This is achieved by applying short fixed-length labels to each packet (effectively a shorthand address that represents the destination and other key aspects of the IP packet header) in much the same way that a postcode provides a shortened version of someone's full postal address. Once the initial PE router labels the IP packet, all subsequent routing decisions in the network are taken based upon the label and not the full header, thereby improving the speed of delivery.

  • Key benefits include:
  • Flexibility
  • Quality of Service
  • VPN
  • Performance
  • Monitoring Services
  • Management reports

Telinet is able to manage the whole process from the design through to the implementation and management

Ethernet

!
Ethernet connections (also known as leased lines) provide you with a dedicated link from one location to a second, or more.

This is a private line, which can be used for voice or data, depending upon your requirements. They are high speed and high bandwidth, so can be used for multiple applications.

Telinet can advise you on the best solution for you, taking into account your particular requirements

VPLS – Virtual Private Lan Service

!
Affordable Ethernet across the Wide Area is finally here, courtesy of Telinet.

If you’re new to this type of technology then think of it as Local Area Network speeds across the Wide Area Network and you won’t go far wrong. Telinet works with a variety of suppliers to bring you the best solution for you, with high quality and the best price.

Whilst many carriers are talking about building Next Generation Networks (NGN), V1 VPLS is delivered on NGN today. For the technically minded, the core network is a Zero Hop VPLS\MPLS Core, which is the fastest and most stable network available today.

Telinet’s offering is based on very similar technology to MPLS. The big difference is that the main access method from customer sites into the core network is via Ethernet, but without the usual cost.

Customers of Telinet’s VPLS enjoy the following functionality:
  • UK and Global VPLS coverage.
  • Access using Ethernet, Leased Line, Broadband
  • Hosted Voice over IP services within the core network
  • Internet optimisation - Five Tier 1 Internet providers, monitored in real time, ensures you always get the fastest routes to anywhere in the world
  • Quality of Service.

Wireless

!

Our research has shown that the key concern for IT Directors has been getting Service Levels that match those of traditional fibre point to point circuits, and ensuring security.

Telinet has a portfolio of wireless products, which incorporate a Service Level Guarantee around availability and monitoring. We advise customers to not only look at this as an alternative to Ethernet but also as a value added back up service to existing circuits offering true resilience.

Telinet’s Wireless Portfolio consists of 3 product groups, all available with enhanced resilience if required:
  • 10M Ethernet
  • 100M Ethernet
  • 1G Ethernet
These services do not necessarily need line of site, and can operate at distances of up to 35km. Every circuit is fully managed and proactively polled from our Network Operations Centre in Docklands.

Virtual numbers

!
Virtual numbers are a relatively new service, which allows you to keep or obtain a geographic number in a different region to where you are physically located.

This is useful if you move offices into a new area exchange number and you do not want to pay the costs associated with redirecting the number, reprinting all of your company stationery and potentially losing customers.

Alternativley you may want to appear to have a presence in an area where you are not physically located, virtual numbers can help in this situation as well.

Non geographic numbers

!
Changes around the 0870 number range were due to take effect on the 1st of February 2008.

Due to an Ofcom announcement at an industry event at the end of October this date has now slipped to later in 2008. Ofcom are unlikely to be able confirm dates at this stage, however it is likely to be around May-June of 2008.

0871 numbers were due to be rebranded PhonePayPlus, early in 2008, this date has also been delayed to later in 2008 and it is likely to take place in the summer time.

In addition 070 numbers should have had a pre call announcement attached to them, under a new regulation. Ofcom is reviewing this due to Health & Safety issues around pre call announcements, as such we are not going to be releasing these numbers until these issues have been resolved.

Telinet is working closely with Ofcom to ensure we know what is happening around the changed number range and we will continue to keep you informed on all of the different aspects of this. These changes and delays are being made by Ofcom and we have no control over them.

Telinet offers its customers a range of non geographic numbers, including:

01 & 02 – UK PTSN
03 – New UK PSTN (no area code – new UK wide range)
04 & 05 – Reserved
06 – Personal numbering (migration from 070x)
07 – Mobile
080 – Free to caller
08 – Business Rate Services
090 – Premium Rate Services
